This past Saturday, January 9th, 2010 we got to swing by the Albany All Stars season opener at the Washington Avenue Armory for a night of brutal body checks! If you didn’t know about the Albany roller derby team, you do now! The 2010 season includes 9 action-packed bouts of intra-league and inter-league play. It’s no surprise that it was a full house! Honestly, there is not much fun $10 can get you these days, but a night of roller-derby is totally worth it! Check out the Albany Allstar website for more information.

Also, please remember that Monday January 11th, 2010 is Jack’s Oyster House 97th Anniversary and benefit for the Capital Region Salvation Army. AlbanyAlive.com has prepared a very special red-carpet entrance with free photos for all those that attend. The entertainment for the night will be:
We hope that everyone has a very happy and safe New Years Eve! Please remember to arrange a dedicated driver or cab for a safe ride home. Martin, Harding, and Mazotti are offering free cab rides through their 1-800-LAW-1010 hotline from 10pm - 2am.
On January 11th, 2010, join Jack’s Oyster House in celebrating their 97th Anniversary in Albany. This event will benefit the Capital Region Salvation Army. Albany Alive will be designing and staffing a very special red-carpet entrance to this event with photos of all those who attend.
This event will feature Jack’s multi-award-winning food and horderves. There will be live entertainment including: TS Ensemble, Al Santoro, a Jazz Trio, and a re-created War Broadcast with music from 1930’s and 1940’s. Mayor Jennings has kindly allowed State Street to be blocked to support the efforts of this event.
If you are considering donating money this Holiday season, please consider this dual celebration, wrapped up in an elegant night of fun. Tickets are available through the Capital Region Salvation Army:

If you can’t make the event, please remember you can donate through the Salvation Army Red Kettles located around the Capital Region. The funds raised are not only put to use for the Holiday season, but for year round programs and support to those in need.
